Diablo 4 trailer revealed at the 2022 Game Awards

With a live performance from musical artist Halsey, Diablo 4 had a cinematic trailer dropped at the 2022 Game Awards. Blizzard has been surprisingly silent in recent years on the possibility of a new Diablo game, after an announcement in 2019, but that silence has finally been broken.

In a cinematic depicting the Archangel Tyrael and holy forces in Hell itself, doing battle against demonic forces. Very little has been revealed about the game’s story can be gleaned from the trailer, except that it seems like Tyrael and his forces will be delving straight into hell itself in order to take the fight to Lillith, the daughter of Mephisto, the demonic Lord of Hatred.

The game seems to take a major focus on Lillith, something previously implied but now explicit. Tyrael can be seen telling Lillith that he has descended to hell to come after her specifically. Given that the song that Halsey performed before the trailer was called “Lillith,” it seems like the titular Diablo may be taking a back seat to the daughter of Mephisto in the upcoming game.

It may even step away from the more regular setting of Diablo and delve completely into the varying landscapes of Hell, taking a holy war to Lillith and her forces. No details have been confirmed, but the new cinematic trailer bears all of Blizzard’s hallmarks of stunning graphics and gorgeous music.

Expect to hear more from Blizzard about Diablo 4 in 2023, said Game Awards founder Geoff Keighley. Diablo 4 is slated for a June 6, 2023 release, according to Activision Blizzard.
