Death threat meme gets Windigo CEO banned from Twitter
Windigo Gaming’s CEO’s Twitter account was suspended after he responded to a former player with a “death threat” meme.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive player Teodor “SPELLAN” Nikolov stated in a Twitlonger that Windigo didn’t pay him his salary for eight months while he was benched. He also accused the esports organization of not sending him prize pool money he’d won while a part of the team. SPELLAN mentioned that CEO Maksym “GuunaR” Bednarskyi wanted an “unreal sum” for his buyout, “just so I wouldn’t go and play anywhere while I was in the best shape in the game ever.”
“I’m so happy this is finally over for me,” SPELLAN said.
CEO GuunaR replied with the phrase, “Prove it or I’ll kill you.” Although GuunaR stated it was a meme, Twitter responded by suspending his account.
This phrase became popular in the CS:GO community after INTZ Esports player Vito “kNgV-” Giuseppe said, “You’ll prove it or I’ll kill you,” after Pujan “FNS” Mehta accused him of being hungover during the 2017 DreamHack Montreal grand final.
Even though GuunaR’s response was an empty threat, SPELLAN still responded that he did indeed have proof in the form of bank statements.
This isn’t the first time SPELLAN has called out an organization for not paying him.
In 2017, the CS:GO pro accused DolphinCS of not paying him prize money after winning an online cup the event organizers hosted that summer. By November, SPELLAN had taken to Twitter to accuse the organization of not paying his team $3,000 owed, which they allegedly promised to give within two weeks of the tournament.
His tournament teammate Cvetelin “CeRq” Dimitrov, now a star at NRG Esports, backed up SPELLAN’s claims and called the tournament a “scam.”
After spending much of 2018 on the bench, SPELLAN joined Epsilon in January 2019.
