Counter Logic Gaming announced Weldon Green as the team’s new head coach for the upcoming 2019 LCS season.

CLG fans will hope that the change will inspire better results in the new year. The storied organization failed to qualify for playoffs in 2018 after finishing seventh in the spring split and eight in the summer.

Weldon is taking over the role previously occupied by Tony “Zikz” Gray. In August, the team announced they would be parting ways with Zikz after a long professional career with CLG that began as an analyst in 2014.

The new coach is moving to Los Angeles full-time and is ready to start preparation heading to the 2019 spring split.

My goal for CLG is to first and foremost retake the title. I think this is the primary goal, one step and one foot in front of the other,” said Weldon.

Part of this preparation includes making the necessary roster changes and hiring a new strategic coach. On October 29, CLG extended jungler Kim “Reignover” Yeu-jin’s contract through 2019. On November 5, support player Vincent “Biofrost” Wang’s contract was extended through 2020. Other changes are to be announced in the coming weeks.

“I could not be more excited to have Weldon as the head coach of the LCS team. Not only does he come with a wealth of experience, he is very aligned with the vision and direction for CLG. A new chapter for our LCS team has begun and there is a lot of work to do,” said Matt “Trinitiii” Nausha, CLG’s director of esports.
