Respawn Entertainment recently shared some details about new legend Catalyst ahead of Season 15, including its gothic design and the voice behind the iconic character.
Catalyst will be joining the legends roster come November 1 when Season 15, titled Eclipse, is released. While this is still weeks away, Respawn was excited to share some exciting information about the new legend.
Catalyst’s real name is Tressa Smith. She is described as an “experienced terraformer and defensive conjurer” who manipulates the battlefield by controlling the ferrofluid. In the latest Stories From the Outlands, “Last Hope,” Apex Legends players learned that Tressa and her friend are hoping to save their home planet Boreas’ shattered moon Cleo since it’s under attack from Hammond Robotics.

But before breaking into Hammond Robotics to save Cleo, Catalyst has a few touching moments with her friend Margo. Looking at the moon, she opens up about her experience as a trans woman, admitting that transitioning was a difficult time for her.
“I feel like the whole world has opened up, now that I’m… myself,” Catalyst said.
While Catalyst seemed a bit unsure about herself, Margo said she possesses leadership skills and other positive qualities that make her stronger than she thinks.
Along with revealing Catalyst’s fierce design and hinting at her interesting abilities, Respawn Entertainment also showcased the new legend’s voice actress, Meli Grant.
Grant is a trans woman herself, which had many gamers applauding Respawn Entertainment. The representation means a lot for the LGBTQ+ community, especially in a space that’s often considered toxic.
“I am the grim trans LEGEND your parents warned you about. I am Catalyst. There are no words to express my gratitude, that capture how much this character, this story, and this family, mean to me. Thank you Respawn and Apex Legends,” Grant tweeted.
