Bloodhound Step appears to have no real counter in Elden Ring, but there are a few things PvPers can do to deal with it.

Bloodhound Step is quickly becoming one of the most hated Ashes of War in Elden RIng PvP. It’s blindingly fast, creates a ton of distance, and is almost completely invincible. Players who focus on competitive multiplayer are growing tired of Bloodhound Step, but there are a few techniques that counter it.

Bloodhound Step is one of many mobility-focused Ashes of War in Elden Ring. It grants a massive amount of invincibility frames while propelling the player much further than the standard dodge roll. It’s very spammable and can be used to create or close distance in all sorts of situations. While useful from afar, it’s also great up close as a panic move to escape tricky situations.

The problem with Bloodhound Step is that it’s effectively invincible for the entirety of its duration, making it very difficult to counter in PvP. There are small vulnerable windows at the beginning and end of the move, but they’re very difficult to hit with any semblance of lag. It’s also fast enough that running players simply can’t catch up to a Bloodhound Step user. Add in its extremely low FP cost of just five, and players find themselves dealing with dozens of Bloodhound Steps before either player can land a hit.

How to counter Bloodhound Step in Elden Ring PvP

Bloodhound Step is extremely strong, but there are a few weapons and play styles that can counter it.

Area-of-effect spells and weapon arts are one of the easiest ways to deal with Bloodhound Step. The Hoarfrost Stomp ash has a ton of active frames and a pretty big hitbox even after the recent nerfs. Bestial Incantations from the Beast Clergyman are another good choice. Beast Claw can catch a player using Bloodhound Step as they try and retreat.

Another option to counter Bloodhound Step in Elden Ring PvP is to wait out the FP use. Bloodhound Steppers tend to use multiple in a row to create or closer distance, but it’s reactable and generally easy to roll away from. The downside is that it only costs five FP, so a player with decent mind leveling and some Cerulean Flasks can keep it up for a very long time.

The last option to counter Bloodhound Step is to join in on the broken fun. Throw the Bloodhound Step Ash of War onto whatever weapon you like and start dancing with the opponent. If you’re particularly angry about the skill, reserve it for opponents who do the same. Assuming you’re using duels instead of invasions, you can always just send the Bloodhound Stepper home or retreat yourself to find another opponent.
