Blastoise Unite

The original water-type starter is finally coming to Pokemon Unite.

Ever since Blastoise was teased on the official Pokemon Unite Twitter in June, the Pokemon community has been anxiously awaiting the shellfish Pokemon’s arrival. And yes, Blastoise is the shellfish Pokemon for some reason, not a turtle.

The tweet didn’t say when Blastoise would arrive but players assumed it would be quite soon as Gardevoir was added to the game shortly after its launch. Pokemon Unite finally told fans when Blastoise would arrive on Aeos Island in a tweet on Wednesday, and the Pokemon will arrive very soon.

Blastoise will arrive in Pokemon Unite on September 1, 2021.

The announcement was accompanied with a short video that showed some of Blastoise’s in-game moves. Classic moves like Surf and Water Gun. He also had a Rapid Spin-type move that saw him quickly moving around inside his shell. Blastoise’s unite will be Hydro Typhoon.

Blastoise was among the first Pokemon revealed in Pokemon Unite, being featured in some of the early trailers, and was a part of the Japan-exclusive beta of the game. Despite that, the Pokemon wasn’t present at launch and the releases of Gardevoir and Blissey before Blastoise were met with surprise over its continued absence.

It’s uncertain what role Blastoise will ultimately play in Pokemon Unite but fan speculation is that the Pokemon will be a defender or attacker. There is currently a dearth of defenders in Pokemon Unite, with only Slowbro, Snorlax, and Crustle being available.

How do you get Blastoise in Pokemon Unite?

Pokemon Unite is a free-to-play game but most Pokemon must be unlocked as playable characters either through grinding or microtransactions. They usually cost either 8,000 or 10,000 Aeos Coins, an in-game currency earned by playing the game. Gardevoir and Blissey were both added after the game’s official launch, coming in at 8,000 Aeos Coins.
