100 Thieves’ LCS roster was recently rocked by the retirement of its midlaner Soren “Bjergsen” Bjerg, who founder Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag says gave the company a mere one hour’s notice ahead of his retirement.

In a recent episode of the 100 Thieves Cast, the founder of the esports organization spoke on Bjergsen’s retirement and his disappointment with how it went. According to Nadeshot, he had approximately a one-hour heads-up before the star mid laner retired. Here’s what happened and what the fallout has been.

Bjergsen retired from 100T with one hour’s notice

In the most recent 100 Thieves Cast episode, Nadeshot says that 100 Thieves had a mere hour to prepare for his departure from the org. Nadeshot details being away from the office when he was contacted by text and told Bjergsen had declared his intent to retire. This is hardly enough time for an organization to prepare for its star player departing, and Nadeshot expressed as much. After the episode began to garner attention, Nadeshot decided to expand on his previous statements, saying the following on Twitter.

“Since the podcast clip is making its rounds and people aren’t even taking the time to watch the entire clip, I hold no resentment or ill will towards Bjergsen. I understand why he handled it the way that he did, I was simply explaining it from my perspective which is the entire purpose of the podcast. Leaks are never fun and a player with such a rich and storied history like Bjergsen deserves to deliver his goodbye the way that he feels is best. Doesn’t change the fact that 100T and myself were personally affected by the decision so we talked about it candidly and briefly on the show. Nobody is hurt, we’ll be fine. Bjergsen is the GOAT and it was a pleasure and an honor to have him wear our jersey and play underneath our banner even if it was only for a split. Forever grateful.”

Bjergsen also responded on Twitter to Nadeshot’s statement. He agreed that he should have handled it differently but expressed that he was proud to end his career as a player on 100T.

While the process clearly didn’t go perfectly for either party, both seem to be ready to respectfully part ways as the League of Legends esports world turns its head towards MSI.
