World of Warcraft streamer Asmongold has noticed a big issue with the MMORPG and is calling on Blizzard to make some changes.
Asmongold is extremely well known, especially in the World of Warcraft community, so he has run into a very specific problem that other players may not have ever dealt with. While streaming WoW Classic: Wrath of the Lich King recently, Asmongold attempted to enter in his name and found out it wasn’t available.
Upon further attempts, Asmongold found out that all of his alternate usernames were also claimed. In the end, Asmongold had to come up with an entirely new username. It may have not seemed like a big deal at first, but Asmongold was quick to explain why this was an issue.
Asmongold calls out Blizzard after encountering username issue
Asmongold decided to play World of Warcraft from level one, meaning he had to come up with an entirely new character and name. He first attempted to use “Asmongold” but was told that the name was not available.
“Wow, what a surprise,” Asmongold said sarcastically.
After a few attempts, Asmongold went with “Asmonfresh.” While funny, the popular content creator was clearly frustrated with all his usernames being taken and immediately came up with a solution for Blizzard.
“Yeah, I’m not going to sit around and think about this s— for f—ing three hours. I wish, honestly, Blizzard would let me reserve one name because people do impersonate me and they scam people pretending to be me,” Asmongold explained.

With Asmongold being so popular, it’s no surprise that people who take his name are able to either get away with a lot of things or face a lot of trolling. Asmongold added that if Blizzard was not willing to reserve his name that he would prefer it be removed from the game completely. This would save people from getting scammed, Asmongold said.
Blizzard has yet to respond to Asmongold’s complaints but this is nothing new between the gamer and the developer. Asmongold has been very vocal about his disdain for various changes to the MMORPG in the past. He was especially outraged when a few
sexual jokes were removed
from the game during Blizzard’s gender discrimination lawsuit.
