Apex Legends Mobile and Battlefield Mobile shutting down
Mobile gamers are having a rough day after EA announced that it was no longer developing Apex Legends Mobile or Battlefield Mobile.
This news has come as a surprise to gamers since Apex Legends Mobile had such a strong start. The game was popular with battle royale fans and featured a lot of exclusive legend reworks and content. But EA stated in an official update that the “ongoing experience” was not going to “meet the expectations” of the playerbase.
“Our love for the Apex universe and our players remains unchanged,” EA wrote. “We look forward to exploring this universe, its characters, and its stories along with you.”
But that’s not all. EA wrote that it was also going to stop development of its Battlefield mobile title. According to developers, the company decided to pivot based on industry trends and EA’s own strategy, which is to “create a deeply connected Battlefield ecosystem.” The vision for the franchise has changed.
Said EA: “We remain highly committed to unlocking Battlefield’s enormous potential. We’re hard at work at evolving Battlefield 2042, and are in pre-production on our future Battlefield experiences at our studios across the globe.”
What will happen to the Apex Legends Mobile app?
The Apex Legends Mobile Twitter account posted the sad news earlier today. In the short message to fans, Apex Legends Mobile stated that the game will “sunset,” meaning it will no longer be playable.
The Apex Legends Mobile app will no longer work on May 1, 2023.
As of today, January 31, developers have disabled in-app purchases that use real money. The game has also been removed from all app stores. Gamers can still spend existing Syndicate Gold and continue to play the game until May 1. Unfortunately, all purchases will also disappear on that date.
“We will not be providing refunds for real money purchases, per the terms of the EA User Agreement. For any other refund requests, please contact the third party platform you purchased game content from, e.g. the Apple App Store and Google Play Store,” developers wrote.
While the app is disappearing in 90 days, it won’t impact the PC or console versions of Apex Legends. These versions will continue getting updates as per usual.
“Our gratitude to our players and teams for joining us on Apex Legends Mobile, even if for a short while, is unending. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you,” Respawn Entertainment wrote.
