Ancient roster dissolves after freddieb announces departure

After Fredrik “freddieb” Buo announced that he is now a free agent, his former team Ancient declared that it was disbanding. It seems that his departure was the project’s breaking point, as André “BARBARR” Möller pointed out.

“In the end, disco doplan, freddieb and draken have been playing together for a (CSGO-speaking) very, very long time. And they did great things, as a core. But when thinking of it, the time had come for them to try different paths. Sometimes you just need a change in life,” BARBARR said.

On Twitter, freddieb changed his bio to reflect his status as a free agent.

“Yesterday, I have decided to not continue my journey with my friends in Ancient. I’ll continue to play and develop myself, but I need to change my working environment,” he tweeted.

freddieb added that he is open for opportunities from all countries and regions.

While a part of Ancient, freddieb placed second at the DreamHack Open Summer. OpTic Gaming had stopped them from obtaining a first-place finish. The team also qualified for the Europe Minor, but ended there with a seventh-place finish.

The team had gone through some roster changes during freddieb’s final months that may have caused a potentially unstable work environment, or even worse placements in tournament play. Just a few weeks ago, Nicolas “Plopski” Gonzalez Zamora left the team for Ninjas in Pyjamas. Denis “grux” Gutaj was brought in as a stand-in, but Ancient settled on Andreas “MODDII” Fridh as a trial player.

“Today I decided to not continue with my friends from Ancient. We had a good run and I did believe in this project but when Plopski left for NiP something went missing,” William “draken” Sundin said.

This situation was quite similar to freddieb’s time spent on GODSENT in 2017. The Swedish player had then expressed his disdain for the team’s unstable roster. In an interview with HLTV.org, freddieb discussed a lack of structure, and how it led to losing to lesser teams in tournaments.

“I think the team chemistry was wrong,” freddieb said at the time.

Ancient’s roster turnover may have led freddieb to feel similarly to when he was on GODSENT. And it’s a sentiment that seems to have spread to the other players on the roster as well. Some fans are upset over the news of Ancient’s breakup, but former members of the fully Swedish roster may have other teams in mind already.
