Kirby and the Forgotten Land brings the pink puffball to a mysterious abandoned city to rescue Waddle Dees with powerful new abilities. But can you take on this new 3D platformer with friends?

In the initial reveal trailer, Kirby fans learned that you can bring along a second player along for the ride in Kirby and the Forgotten Land, meaning friends can join you on your quest to take down the Beast Pack, grow Waddle Dee Town and discover more about the strange new planet.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land has co-op play

Kirby can do a lot of incredible things on his own in Forgotten Land, including traversing the maps as a car or lightbulb, upgrading copy abilities, and fishing. But if that’s not enough, Kirby can be joined by a Bandana Waddle Dee controlled by a second player.

A trailer gave fans a closer look at this co-op gameplay showing Bandana Waddle Dee throwing his spears at enemies from afar. This makes him a great long-distance fighter who can avoid the dangers of close combat. It’s a great balance to Kirby’s more in-your-face fighting style, which sees him often running right up to enemies to blast them with fire or damage them with spikes.

Another important thing to note from the trailer is that the second player can be seen fishing alongside Kirby in Waddle Dee Town. Kirby and Bandana Waddle Dee both casually toss a fishing pole into the water and sit back like two old friends catching up on a lazy day. It’s still unclear if fishing is a casual pastime, a minigame, or something even more.

Does Kirby and the Forgotten Land have multiplayer online?

Kirby and the Forgotten Land will not have an online multiplayer option. There are no couch co-op gameplay options outside of the campaign that we are currently aware of. Kirby and the Forgotten Land isn’t a party game and is better suited for one or two players looking to go on an adventure together.

While fans will surely be disappointed by the lack of online co-op, it’s not a big surprise. Developer Nintendo has typically lagged behind others with its online multiplayer options, and that continues to be the case with Kirby and the Forgotten Land.
