FPS players are growing frustrated while waiting for the much-delayed XDefiant. While Ubisoft is not able to release the game on time, we are luckily learning more about what to expect when XDefiant finally launches. This includes some confirmed XDefiant game modes.

Developers have announced that the shooter will launch with five game modes upon release. These game modes are divided into two categories that devs are calling Arena and Linear.

XDefiant game modes

XDefiant game modes in this category are focused on earning points. Here are the two:

Domination

This game mode is focused on zone control, with teams attempting to dominate one of three points on the map. With both teams fighting to control the point, there’s a lot of aggressive moments as well as strategy as squads figure out which point to attack or defend.

This game also has zones your team must control but in this mode there’s only one point to focus on at a time. You’ll need more mobility in this mode as you race to each location to dominate them over your opponents.

Hotshot

In Hotshot, you want to get more points than your team. Eliminated opponents will drop bounty that you must collect to get points for your team — a certain amount of bounty will result in a Hotshot, a weapon that shoots even faster. If you have a Hotshot, you’ll be tracked on the map but you also get your points multiplied if you eliminate anyone with the Hotshot. This creates some high pressure situations.

XDefiant linear modes

Unlike arena modes, these modes are not focused on getting points. Instead, Linear modes have more traditional motives. One team will attack while the other defends.

In this game mode, one team must protect a package as it moves through the map and reaches its destination. The package will only move if you stand near it and the more players the faster it will move. Meanwhile, the other team must protect the spawn zone so the package can’t get there in time or take over the package and move it backward.

Zone Control

Zone Control has five points that attackers have to take over. Once you gain control of one point, the next one opens. Defenders have to stop the attackers from taking over the five points but already dominated points cannot be taken back.
