On May 10, Overwatch 2 players were surprised to find that Sigma was disabled in the competitive modes. Why was Sigma disabled in OW2?

It all started on May 9 with the release of the mid-season patch, just in time for the 2023 Competitive Deathmatch season. As one of the biggest patches in the year, it included changes to maps, heroes, and general system updates.

The updates caused a game-breaking bug affecting Sigma. The bug was triggered by aiming at a specific surface while casting Sigma’s ult. The bug would cause Sigma to get stuck in the flying animation. As a result, Sigma was disabled from all competitive modes.

Sigma remained available in Unranked and Arcade modes. Aaron Keller, Game Director for Overwatch, asked players not to trigger the bug while playing the non-competitive modes. Of course, players took the opportunity to abuse the bug while it lasted.

On May 12, Keller announced they would be pushing a hotfix and enabling Sigma soon after.

What is the next event in Overwatch 2?

Sigma is available on time for the Starwatch event. Inspired by Star Wars, Starwatch is a four-point Assault mode. Players can join the Watcher rebels or the Infinite Empire. By the end of the event, the side that wins the most matches will reign supreme over the galaxy. The event has multiple challenges, upon completion, players will receive limited-time cosmetics and up to 50,000 Battle Pass XP.

The Battle for Olympus event will be returning for a limited time with a new Team Deathmatch version.

Is Overwatch 2 free yet?

Overwatch 2 is completely free to play. It is available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.

There are in-game purchases like cosmetics and the battle pass. However, none of these are required to advance through the ranks.
