Even though Clive Rosfield is the main protagonist of Final Fantasy XVI, players can’t help but gush over the Dominant of Ramuh, Cidolfus Telamon, better known as “Cid.” Here’s all we know about him.
Final Fantasy franchise has kept the fans hooked by including familiar faces in each new installment. This helps the fans better relate to new games. However, these recurring characters often have side roles and not the central ones.
One example is Cid. The older, wiser soldier still plays support, but his character is pivotal to the plot progress in Final Fantasy XVI.
In Final Fantasy XVI, Cid is a Dominant of Ramuh. For the unaware, a Dominant in FFXVI is a person born with the ability to host Eikons, the most powerful and deadly creatures in Valisthea.
Cid is a recurring character in Final Fantasy XVI. He first appeared in the franchise as Fynn’s Knights in 1988. In Final Fantasy 2, he was merely a transportation provider, but this time, he returns as one of the primary sources behind the protagonist’s powers. Cid is the Warden of Thunder, meaning he can command lightning and help his friends out of trouble. This was part of the reason he became a close ally of Clive.
The short answer is: Yes. Cid dies a heroic death in Final Fantasy XVI, but his legacy lives on through Clive.
Cid dies while trying to save Clive from Typhone, a creature trying to grab the protagonist. While Cid was heavily wounded, he used the last of his power to ensure that Clive lived on. Before passing away, Cid transfers Ramuh’s powers to Clive, which is how he lives on in FFXVI, despite dying.
Cidolfus is voiced by Ralph Ineson in the English version.
Fans may recognize Cid’s voice from Diablo 4 because the same actor voiced Lorath. Ineson is also famous among horror and mystery movie fans for voicing characters like William in The Witch, Dagmer Cleftjaw in Game of Thrones, Nikolai Tarakanov in Chornobyl, and the title character in The Green Knight.
