When will Baki Hanma season 2 come out and what will happen?

Baki Hanma season two is coming, but when exactly will it be arriving?

The first part of Baki Hanma was a hit with fans of the series and newcomers alike, with titular hero Baki intentionally getting arrested in the United States. This sets up a fight with Biscuit Oliva, who is regarded as America’s strongest fighter. The two face off in one of the most brutal fights of the series, with Baki out-lasting Oliva and taking his toughest victory since defeating Jack Hanma in the Maximum Tournament.

Baki’s reason for seeking out Oliva was to find someone that can match the physical strength of his father, Yujiro Hanma. So does that mean that Yujiro vs. Baki is set to happen? And when will fans get to watch Baki Hanma season two? Here’s what you need to know.

What happens in Baki Hanma season two?

Baki Hanma season two will introduce a new character named Pickle, a character they become desperate to fight.

Though Baki Hanma: Son of Ogre was set up with Yujiro accepting a challenge from Baki after his defeat of Mohammad Alai, Jr., there are actually two full arcs and some filler before the fight actually happens. The first major arc, revolving around Oliva and the Arizona State Prison, wrapped up in season one. The second arc will likely take up the entirety of the second season.

Pickle was briefly shown at the end of Baki Hanma season one.

While Baki Hanma season one starts off on an absurd note with a fight against a giant, imaginary praying mantis, season two is actually even more ridiculous. The season revolves around Pickle, an eight-foot-tall caveman found frozen in a block of ice.

Not only is Pickle an eight-foot-tall caveman, but he actually lived during the cretaceous era. This saw him routinely hunt, kill, and eat dinosaurs. The notion that there’s a man that was strong enough to strangle a tyrannosaurus rex barehanded intrigues the fighters, leading them to flock to him for the chance for a fight.

The stakes are raised by the fact that Pickle actively looks to eat anyone he defeats. This leads to some grim outcomes in the fights.

When does Baki Hanma season two come out?

Netflix hasn’t yet announced a release date for Baki Hanma season two, but it will likely come out in late 2022 or early 2023.

By all accounts, it has been renewed for a second season. This means that the show is likely in production already, and may have been for some time at this point.

Alongside this, the franchise seems to be bigger than ever, and recently had a massive 30-year anniversary celebration with a life-size Underground Arena ring with life-size statues of Baki, Yujiro, and Jack Hanma. All signs point to the show coming back, so right now the question surrounding a Baki Hanma season two is a matter of when not if.

For the sake of comparison, the second half of Baki dropped on Netflix on June 4, 2020. This was followed by Baki Hanma landing on September 30, 2021. That’s a 15-month window between the two shows so if that pans out in similar fashion this year, it would mean a December 2022 release for Baki Hanma season two.

There are a wide variety of other factors in play here of course, but fans should look for official word to come later this year, with teasers starting to roll in this fall.
