Triple ultimate combo extends NYXL winning streak
Triple ultimate combo extends NYXL winning streak
The New York Excelsior are
delivering on their promise
to fans by winning their second game of Season 2, defeating expansion team Washington Justice 3-1.
The NYXL are starting the second Overwatch League season out strong, with two consecutive wins over the Justice and Boston Uprising. This comes after a heartbreaking semifinal elimination in Season 1 that left the team in tears.
Despite a great start to its first season, NYXL had fallen apart in the season’s fourth stage late in the year. The team’s hunger to climb back to the top and prove themselves in Season 2 has become apparent.
NXYL defeated Justice 2-0 on Illios, reading the opposing team’s every move. The second map was another easy win, with Justice not taking a single point.
It seemed as though Justice could possibly change the tide on Horizon Lunar Colony. NYXL, whose confidence had led them to employ flashy plays outside of the GOAT meta, couldn’t even take Point A. NYXL players quickly learned their lesson, switching back to a 3-3 composition for fourth and final map Rialto.
The crowd erupted when NYXL pulled off a devastating triple ultimate combo. Yeon-kwan “Nenne” Jeong used Zarya’s Graviton Surge to pile up Justice’s roster, followed by a dramatic Earthshatter by Dong-gyu “Mano” Kim’s Reinhardt that sent the defenseless Washington players backwards. NYXL topped it all off with a devastating Self-Destruct by Kim “MekO” Tae-hong on D.Va. This cleared the point, and Justice saw their hopes of a reverse sweep disappear as quickly as the overtime bar.
“We wanted to diverse from 3-3 composition, but Justice were prepared for that switch. At the very end, we pulled out the win because our GOATs composition is the best,” MekO said.
NYXL’s next match will be against Los Angeles Valiant, one of the teams New York team lost to in stage four of last season. MekO said NYXL players are confident they will get their revenge.
