The League of Legends Championship Series celebrated 2019 by sharing some interesting statistics about their sponsors, players, champions, and map impact.

“While we prep for our strongest season yet, we wanted to take a beat to celebrate the wins – big and small – that made up our year,” the LCS stated in an official press release.

According to the press release, the LCS is currently the third most popular major professional sports league in the United States in its target demographic. This astonishing statistic is based on their live average minute audience, which is 124,000 for 18 to 34-year-olds.

The 2019 Spring Finals alone had 609,000 concurrent viewers at its peak, with 433,000 average viewers throughout. This totaled a staggering 2.4 million hours watched for just that one event alone. While there weren’t any specific statistics available for the rest of the 2019 LCS season, they revealed that 53,000 people attended an LCS event this year.

One interesting statistic from the LCS Summer Finals was the economic impact it had on the city of Detroit, where the event was held. By partnering with this host city, th LCS reportedly contributed $5.44 million to Detroit’s local economy.

The biggest LCS sponsors from 2019

According to the year roundup press release, the LCS gained 11 new partners in 2019. They also had 91% of their previous sponsors return.

“More brands than ever have embraced our sport in fun and creative ways,” the LCS stated.

They provided some examples of this, including Rocket Mortgage becoming “first-ever presenting sponsors” of the LCS Finals, Honda sponsoring the MVP Award, and Alienware creating a custom belt for the 2v2 championship at Rift Rivals: NA vs EU.

Champion statistics from LCS 2019

Of course, the LCS wouldn’t be so popular or successful without the game itself, as well as the players who play it. The LCS press release included some interesting in-game statistics that highlight this past year’s meta.

Throughout the LCS season, 1,118 dragons were killed along with 365 Barons. Sixty three Elder Dragons were killed on the Rift, and 15 Barons were stolen.

The most picked champion was Aatrox, who was selected by pros 101 times. Irelia was banned even more often than Aatrox was picked, with 131 bans. This is due to her flexibility on the map, as she was able to dominate in the top and mid lanes. Irelia is also powerful in the late game, making her quite scary to go up against. Able to synergize well with almost any comp, most teams just wanted to ensure she was not an option.

With Irelia out of the way, Ezreal became the most dominant champion in the LCS. He snagged an impressive 55 wins throughout the season.

Some other interesting stats included players who had pressed the most buttons. While part of Clutch Gaming, Heo “Huni” Seung-hoon pressed “Q” 12,602 times and “E” 10,492 times. Team SoloMid’s Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg clicked “R” a whopping 12,609 times. That’s a lot of ultimates.

“We’re proud of everything the LCS has achieved this year – and we couldn’t have done it without the fans, teams, players, coaches, managers and more that make up our community,” the press release concluded.
