The Last of Us Part II Remastered has been announced for the PlayStation 5.
Earlier today, Naughty Dog announced The Last of Us Part II Remastered after the game was leaked earlier in the morning. It looks like the leaks have all been confirmed, including the release date.
The new Last of Us game is coming out on January 19, 2024.
It will be exclusively released for the PlayStation 5. It won’t be on the PlayStation 4 or Xbox systems.
While the game is just a remaster, it does have some new content for fans of the gritty action adventure.
The biggest update is a new mode called No Return, a roguelike survival mode that has “randomized encounters” and introduces a new way to experience the game’s combat. This mode will have new characters, stealth elements, and troublesome enemies.
Said Jonathan Dornbush: “There will be various stealth and combat encounters that will pit you against a range of enemies, with unique twists that can add new, unexpected factors to any given encounter.”

The blog continued: “Each run will offer a new chance to decide what rewards you get after each encounter, how you spec out your character, and more. Unlock more characters, skins, and more as you progress to use the mode, customize your own runs, and compete on a global leaderboard as part of a Daily Run. We’re excited to share more about No Return as we get closer to launch.”
Long-time fans will also be excited about a new guitar free play mode with instruments to unlock and try out. There’s also a speed run mode and incomplete levels that were cut from the original game. The guitar mode allows you to “play as different characters in several in-game locations to customize the mood and feel of your set.”
On the technical side, the Remastered version will have 4K output in fidelity mode, and 1440p has been upscaled to 4K in performance mode. Framerate can also be unlocked if you have a TV that supports VRR. Improved loading times will also be a relief to PlayStation 5 players.
If you already own The Last of Us Part II on PS4, you can upgrade to the digital version of Remastered for just $10. Your old saves will be transferred over.
