Teamfight Tactics’ next expansion has been previewed alongside the Gadgets and Gizmos mid-set update, showing off TFT Set 7.

The seventh set for TFT will take place on the mystical Dragon Isles, where clans worship powerful drakes to unlock the power of mysterious shrines. Hextech Augments will be making a return in the seventh set after being a smash hit in the most recent TFT expansion.

TFT Set 7 announced

TFT Set 7 was announced earlier this week alongside the mid-set update Teamfight Tactics: Neon Nights. Riot Games released a Teamfight Tactics roadmap that included fans’ first look at the next new set. As mentioned, the theme will revolve around dragons and dragon-themed skins, so fans can probably look forwards to Dragon Trainer skins and similar lines making an appearance.

Illaoi already appeared in the Dev Drop for early 2022, with her 3-star incarnation summoning tentacles all around the map that smash inwards onto her target and any champions caught between them. The designers also announced that the branching decision trees of Hextech Augments have been popular with players and will return in a similar form in TFT Set 7.

Will Hextech Augments return to TFT?

Teamfight Tactics’ distinguishing feature from other auto battlers previously was its dependence on itemization and the incredibly powerful items that units can wield. While this worked to some extent, it failed to truly distinguish Teamfight Tactics as its own unique title in the auto battler space. Augments have fixed this, with a three-pointed branching decision tree that can drastically affect the way a game of Teamfight Tactics plays.

From Clear Mind to Rich Get Richer and Level Up, some augments introduce entirely new strategies for players to experiment and play with. This has led to the most recent Teamfight Tactics set being Riot Games’ most successful to date, with a staggering jump in both the number of active players and games played. Riot is responding by doubling down on Gadgets and Gizmos’ best feature for TFT Set 7.
