Team Envy adds 16-year-old s0m, ex-NRG player FugLy to roster

Team Envy has finished retooling its roster in the wake of its Katowice Major flop.

The organization revealed its new lineup on Twitter. Joining Josh “jdm64” Marzano and Noah “Nifty” Francis on the team are former CompLexity Gaming members Sam “s0m” Oh and Bradley “ANDROID” Fodor, as well as ex-NRG Esports lurker Jacob “FugLy” Medina.

The lineup is an intriguing one, but leaves some unanswered questions.

FugLy joins following a rough performance at the Katowice Major. Though he walked into the event alongside his NRG teammates with the expectation of a top-eight finish, NRG went from crushing the Challengers Stage to being among the first elimination from the Legends Stage. FugLy posted unremarkable stat lines throughout and took much of the heat for the team’s stumble.

The rest of the squad remained together while FugLy was released in favor of Tarik “tarik” Celik.

ANDROID joins following a similarly rough turn of events. Despite helping CompLexity establish itself as a contender in 2018, he was benched after the team’s fortunes turned late in the year. The final straw came when coL failed to qualify for StarSeries Season 7.

Both ANDROID and FugLy will be looking for a fresh start after disappointing ends to long runs with their prior teams.

S0m rounds out the lineup, and joins under very different circumstances.

The 16-year-old has been a curiosity of the North American scene since 2017 when he began playing with Naventic. He has competed regularly since, but has occasionally dabbled with jumping into the professional scene with such teams as Swole Patrol and the Old Guys Club, as well as stints as a streamer with CompLexity. This move to Envy will be a step up for him.

Departing Envy are Stephen “reltuC” Cutler and Tayler “Drone” Johnson. The pair first joined Envy alongside fellow Splyce member Kory “SEMPHIS” Friesen, and acted as the team’s core during the organization’s transition from France to North America. It is unknown where the pair will land from here.

The new Team Envy will have plenty of opportunities to compete over the coming weeks with a slew of events hosting qualifiers in North America. Its first appearance comes in the qualifiers to DreamHack Masters Dallas 2019.
