Martin “STYKO” Styk is joining NoChance on a full-time basis. The Counter-Strike: Global Offensive player is parting ways with Mousesports after two years with the organization.
The Slovakian player let his fans know of the switch on Twitter, stating he is “not part of Mousesports anymore” and is “now gonna represent NoChance after players’ break.” Both teams confirmed the news shortly thereafter.
STYKO first joined Mousesports in 2017 after a solid run with HellRaisers, helping the organization take some of its biggest wins to date including first-place finishes at StarLadder & i-League StarSeries Season 4 and ESG Tour Mykonos 2017. He was benched in February after the team was eliminated from the IEM Katowice Major’s Europe Minor Championship and was loaned to NoChance in March.
While NoChance is seemingly committed to STYKO, it has not enjoyed particularly great success since adding him. The team has predominantly competed in qualifiers and regional online tournaments with unremarkable results.
NoChance’s greatest accomplishment with STYKO is likely its appearance in the StarLadder Berlin Major’s Europe Minor Championship, which required the team to defeat Heroic and Windigo Gaming in the closed qualifier. Despite that solid showing, NoChance failed to clear the group stage of the event.
While NoChance has been struggling to make an impression, Mousesports has enjoyed a resurgence.
The organization’s decision to bench STYKO and Sergey “lmbt” Bezhanov, and form a new lineup around the returning Chris “chrisJ” de Jong and former FaZe Clan captain Finn “karrigan” Andersen, has paid off in a number of ways. The team took first place at DreamHack Open Tours in May and third at the ESL Pro League Season 9 Finals. It most recently qualified for the StarLadder Berlin Major by winning the event’s Europe Minor Championship.
With STYKO now a permanent part of the team, NoChance will look to improve its chemistry and climb up the contentious European ladder. The team will likely return to action in the fall.
