Popular TV show Stranger Things announced the release of its first VR game coming out in Winter 2023.

The wait for Stranger Things season 5 is long but Netflix is giving the audience something to kill time, a VR game. Developed by Los Angeles-based studio Tender Claws, the game is coming out on the biggest VR Platforms available.

The game, titled so far as Stranger Things VR, will be played from the perspective of season four antagonist Vecna, played by Jamie Campbell Bower in the show. Players will get the opportunity to explore multiple realities while forming their own hive minds and taming the Upside Down. As Vecna, players will invade minds and plant nightmares in the minds of unsuspecting Hawkins’ habitants.

Vecna’s backstory was revealed in season 4. Born Henry Creel, he was taken into Hawkins National Laboratory as the first subject after demonstrating psychokinetic abilities. In a fight, Eleven sent him through the gate to the Upside Down. Creel adapted to his new environment, growing his power and creating his own army. The name Vecna is given to him by Eleven’s friends based on the Dungeons & Dragons character.

The game will show Vecna’s evolution and his influence in past seasons of the show. In the show, it is implied that Vecna commands the Demogorgon, the Mind Flayer, and other Upside Down creatures. It is unclear if other known characters from Stranger Things will be featured in the game.

Is the Stranger Things game still available?

Stranger Things VR is not the first video game based on the franchise. Stranger Things: 1984 came out in 2017 followed by Stranger Things 3: The Game in 2019. Netflix acquired the studio behind the games and made them available again on mobile. Stranger Things Puzzle Tales is also available through Netflix’s app.

In general, the Stranger Things video games have been released to underwhelming reviews. Hopefully Stranger Things VR delivers the experience that players have been waiting for.
