After Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo was called the most overrated player in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, the entire pro scene rallied back with Oleksandr “s1mple” at the helm.

CSGO pros from all over the world have come together to defend and celebrate one of the game’s greatest captains. The row started with a social media post from analyst Duncan “Thorin” Shields claiming that FalleN is the most overrated player in CSGO history. The list of pros coming to FalleN’s aid included s1mple, Mikhail “Dosia” Stolyarov, and Tarik “tarik” Celik. The posts in question have sparked a debate in the community on FalleN’s legacy, with most fans agreeing with the pros.

s1mple was one of the first players to reject Thorin’s claim in a high-profile thread. He would go on to trade insults with the analyst until the pair eventually blocked each other. s1mple coming out in support of FalleN like this likely means he greatly respects the Brazilian icon.

s1mple’s response was the most direct, but many other CSGO pros have come forward to disagree with the sentiment that FalleN is overrated. Major champion Dosia posted a photo with several other old-school icons gesturing their displeasure.

Former CSGO icon and major champion tarik also chimed in with his take on FalleN’s legacy. He encouraged critics to go through FalleN’s accomplishments, calling him a legend. The two briefly played together on MiBR in late 2018, so tarik has firsthand experience of playing with FalleN.

The godfather of the Brazilian CSGO scene thanked his fellow pros for their kind words, including a direct reply to s1mple. The two major champions clearly have a lot of respect for each other.

Is FalleN the most overrated CSGO pro?

This whole fiasco was sparked with a personality calling FalleN one of the most overrated CSGO pros of all time, something s1mple and company clearly disagree with.

2021 was a particularly rough patch for FalleN’s in-game performance, with just 64.6 damage and .62 kills per round. FalleN’s previous Brazilian teams often focused on supporting the firepower of Marcelo “coldzera” David and Lincoln “fnx” Lau. FalleN has also only won two tournaments since the start of 2019. Compared to the rest of the professional CSGO field, FalleN is historically a somewhat above-average player statistically.

But a few average stats can’t take away from FalleN’s legacy. He is known as the godfather of Brazilian Counter-Strike: Global Offensive play for a reason. His 2016 squad won South America’s first major at the MLG Columbus Major. It repeated the feat in Cologne just months later. FalleN has been a crucial part of the rising South American scene, whose teams can now contest top international sides on the world stage.

While FalleN isn’t as sharp with the AWP as he used to be, his leadership skills and regional importance make it difficult to call him overrated.
