Renegades announced its return to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on Twitter, revealing that it has acquired the roster of Grayhound Gaming.

The organization returns to the game after just a few weeks away. The Renegades roster was transferred to 100 Thieves at the end of October, soon after its third-place finish at the StarLadder Berlin Major. Just a month later, the organization is back in the scene with the acquisition of Grayhound’s roster.

Renegades revealed the news with a video sketch showing all five players signing a mock contract and swapping their jerseys from Grayhound’s to Renegades’. In the sketch, players were mentioning a buyout worth millions, and getting all the terms they asked for.

The Grayhound roster hasn’t enjoyed the same sort of success that Renegades is used to. While the former roster has typically competed in top events and recently placed in the top four of the StarLadder Berlin Major, Grayhound hasn’t been as successful on larger stages. The team still competes at some larger events, but comes up short more often than not.

That said, Grayhound has proven itself capable of defeating elite competition, as evidenced by its wins over Evil Geniuses and Team Liquid at DreamHack Masters Malmo. Renegades will be looking to bring them to that level on a consistent basis.

Renegades’ new roster debuts with a loss against Astralis

Renegades’ new CSGO roster is the same one that fans have seen with Grayhound Gaming of late:

This continues Renegades’ tradition of fielding Australian teams and will also keep the brand competing in Asia and Oceania regional events and qualifiers.

The team made its official debut under the Renegades banner at the ESL Pro League Season 10 Finals. Their opening match wasn’t an easy one, as Renegades faced top-ranked Astralis. Expectedly, the team fell behind, losing to the Danes 16-8 on Inferno.

That puts Renegades into an awkward position where another group stage loss will result in an elimination. The team bounced back with a win over Sharks Esports and will next take on the loser of the upper bracket matchup between mousesports and Team Liquid.
