A look at PUBG’s 2024 road map looks like a lot of exciting changes are in store for the classic battle royale.

Compared to the colorful chaos of games like Fortnite and Apex Legends, PUBG has consistently remained a more serious take on the battle royale genre with a focus on realism. Six years later, however, developers want to make a few changes that will keep gameplay fresh.

An official PUBG roadmap for 2024 has outlined some big changes for fans of the battle royale. This includes a move to Unreal Engine 5, which allows for better visuals and more content for both casual and competitive alike.

Improved gunplay and new elements like survival items are definitely something to look forward to. But perhaps one of the most interesting gameplay changes will be destructible environments. According to developers, players will soon be able to destroy sections of buildings or even create defensive barriers, creating new attack routes and a new layer of strategy. A preview of this gameplay update will come in April, according to the road map.

Krafton also stated that there will be gunplay updates every two months to “foster a stable ecosystem” and create “greater diversity” when it comes to choices. Before weapons launch, players can test them in the Gunplay Lab over in Arcade.

To further encourage new players to join the fray and keep active gamers motivated, developers are also planning some collaborations, user generated content, and matchmaking improvements. There was also the promise of more anti-cheat measures. The user generated content will hopefully “empower players” to engage with each other a bit more and “foster a vibrant, creator-driven ecosystem.”

PUBG was first launched on Steam in 2017. It has continued to thrive, especially PUBG Mobile. Now, it looks like developers are hoping to bring in new players and keep the game feeling a bit refreshed.
