Fans of everything cute have expressed joy over the news that Pokemon Squishmallows are coming.
Squishmallows have become one of the most popular plushies to collect in North America thanks to their simplistic round design and soft material. If past is precedent, the Pokemon Squishmallows may become the most coveted in any collection after the collaboration was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con.
The official tweet from Squishmallows showed two favorites that will be included in the upcoming collection, encased in glass at the event. The vibrant yellow Pikachu is large with its red cheeks, chubby arms, and signature ears. Gengar has a sinister smile but still looks completely adorable and ready to cuddle.
But are there more on the way?
While Pikachu and Gengar have been confirmed by Squishmallows, a recent Target leak has revealed that more Pokemon are coming in this surprise collaboration.
A Squishmallows insider has stated that Togepi and Snorlax are also being made into cute Squishmallows. Just like Pikachu and Gengar, these other classic Pokemon will be 14 inches tall but larger versions are possible.
Jazwares brand manager Aaron Margolin himself has called Pikachu and Gengar “wave one” of the partnership. This means that there are more waves on the way with even more Pokemon set to be given this plushie treatment. It’s not clear how many will actually be made and when they will be released.
“Joining forces with Pokémon to bring fans this monumental new offering takes the Squishmallows brand to a completely new level of pop culture coolness,” Jazwares senior VP of brand and marketing Gerhard Runken said.
The Pikachu and Gengar Squishmallows are not available just yet. Even SDCC attendees were not able to purchase the coveted Squishamllows. Instead, they will be sold on the Pokemon Center website and possibly some other retailers.
“I can promise you…We’re planning a way for e-v-e-r-y-o-n-e to get their hands on Pokémon Squishmallows,” Margolin told fans.
There is no specific release date for the Pokemon Squishmallows just yet, but you can expect them to drop later this year.
