Fashion Week 2021 is about to arrive in Pokemon GO and it’s set to be a really big event.

Costumed Pokemon from last year are set to return and new ones will be added. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. A new tool for changing Pokemon forms is being added to Pokemon GO with Fashion Week 2021, and the GO Fest 2021 special research will be made available for all.

There’s a lot to go over but here’s everything that’s set to come out for the event.

Fashion Week 2021 adds Furfrou, new Pokemon costumes

The centerpiece of Fashion Week 2021 is the addition of the poodle-like Furfrou. The Kalos Pokemon isn’t a particularly strong one but has a unique functionality in Pokemon X and Y where its appearance could be changed into a wide variety of different styles.

That’s going to be the basis for a new mechanic in Pokemon GO. For 10,000 Stardust and 25 Furfrou candy, players will be able to freely change its appearance in the menu. Trainers will have access to three different forms of Furfrou globally including its normal form, dandy form, and matron form. Past that, other looks can be unlocked by changing forms in certain regions, with some locked to specific countries.

  • Natural Form: Global
  • Matron Trim: Global
  • Dandy Trim: Global
  • Debutante Trim: Americas
  • Diamond Trim: Europe, Middle East, and Africa
  • Star Trim: Asia-Pacific
  • La Reine Trim: France
  • Kabuki Trim: Japan
  • Pharaoh Trim: Egypt
  • Heart Trim: Unknown

It is unknown when the heart form will become available or who it will be available to. Still, Furfrou is set to become a unique flex in Pokemon GO, with players able to show off their travels based on how many different looks they have for Pokemon.

New costumed Pokemon arrive in GO Fashion Week 2021

Last year, hat-wearing Pokemon and a bow-wearing Smoochum arrived for Fashion Week in Pokemon GO. Things are going to be a bit more diverse in 2021.

Sneasel, Butterfree, and Blitzle will all be getting new costumed forms for Fashion Week 2021. Alongside these Pokemon, last year’s Croagunk, Smoochum, Kirlia, and Shinx will all be returning. The Pokemon will be mixed together between wild encounters and raids. Here’s where the costumed Pokemon will be available:

  • Wild: Kirlia, Blitzle, Croagunk, Butterfree
  • One-star raids: Sneasel, Shinx
  • Three-star raids: Butterfree, Kirlia

All seven of these costumed Pokemon will be available in shiny forms. However, it’s uncertain which of these Pokemon will be able to evolve, if any.

Five-star raids will not be a part of the Fashion Week 2021 event and will instead feature the Pokemon Diamond and Pearl legendary trio of Mesprit, Uxie, and Azelf. Mega Houndoom will be available in mega raids.

Meloetta special research arriving for everyone in Pokemon GO

Meloetta was the star of Pokemon GO Fest 2021 but was locked behind a paywall. That’s changing with Fashion Week 2021, with a new special research that will make the Pokemon available to all.

The mythical Pokemon Meloetta has a unique normal-psychic typing, making it resistant to ghost-type moves. It also has a high CP ceiling, making it a strong addition to anyone’s collection. Players that already caught Meloetta during GO Fest will be awarded extra Meloetta candy instead of catching a second copy of the Pokemon.

Fashion Challengers coming to Pokestops

Team GO Rocket grunts are going to have some company at Pokestops during Fashion Week, with Fashion Challengers set to take them over and challenge trainers to battle. There are five different types of Fashion Challengers who will be around to challenge trainers. These are their lineups:

Eccentric ChallengerFufrouGravelerBlitzle
Quirky ChallengerFurfrouBraixenShinx
Sassy ChallengerFurfrouButterfreeVaporeon

As with Team GO Rocket grunts, Fashion Challengers do not use shields to block, which makes them fairly easy to defeat especially Pokemon with easy-to-use charged attacks. Unfortunately, there is no catchable encounter after the battle. Players receive rewards of Stardust and various items.
