Ping system coming to World of Warcraft Dragonflight
Ping system coming to World of Warcraft Dragonflight
World of Warcraft is getting a new ping system that will make communication much more effective.
Pings are quite common in MOBA games like League of Legends and shooters like Overwatch 2. Ping systems allow players to communicate with their teammates even if they aren’t using a mic by instead using a hotkey to mark a spot or enemy on the map. More complex systems can even tell teammates your actions.
Inspired by ping systems in games like this, developers have confirmed that
World of Warcraft
will be getting something similar.
WoW Dragonflight patch to include ping system
World of Warcraft developer Morgan Day discussed the Dragonflight patch with Team Liquid raid leader Maximum earlier this weekend, revealing some interesting updates.
Day confirmed that the team is currently working on a ping system that will make communication much more effective. The ping system will allow players to mark locations or targets on screen so it shows up for their teammates, which Maximum said was
an “insane” improvement.
“This is a ping system that has contextual pings where you can quickly on the fly communicate,” Day explained. “It will have different options, putting them in the world, on a player, on an enemy. Giving players that tool to more quickly communicate. This is not only something that is great for guilds but an important accessibility option.”
When are pings coming to Wow?
Pings are confirmed to be part of Patch 10.1.7.
Currently, this patch has no specific release date, although it’s scheduled to go live sometime in the fall, according to developers. The exact details of the system are also unknown, but they could provide a way to signal important cooldowns or remind fellow raiders of an upcoming mechanic. Expect to see more details on the Dragonflight ping system closer to the release date of Patch 10.1.7.
