The Overwatch 2 community was frustrated (again) when Blizzard announced that the Owl Guardian Mercy skin was going to be given away for free after many had purchased it earlier this year.

Mercy is one of the most popular Overwatch 2 heroes out there, with many fans begging for certain skins to return. But what players didn’t expect was Blizzard giving away a skin for free after many players already spent money on it. This immediately caused an uproar in the community.

Now, Blizzard is hoping to make things right.

Overwatch 2 refund for Owl Guardian Mercy skin

The Owl Guardian Mercy skin first came out in January 2023. It cost Overwatch Coins to acquire, but many did it willingly in order to grow their expansive Mercy skin collection.

Then, Blizzard released the Epic skin through a sponsorship with Prime Gaming, making it available for free this time around. In response, fans said that Blizzard had, once again, left a “bad taste” in their mouth. Others wondered why they had bothered spending cash on a skin if it was going to end up being free later.

As the uproar continued, many fans demanded their money back from Blizzard. And it looks like the developer is in agreement. Sort of.

If you purchased the Owl Guardian Mercy skin between August 29 and September 7, you can get an overwatch Coin refund while keeping the skin and its content.

However, if you purchased the skin earlier this year, you’re apparently out of luck. Many Overwatch fans expressed sympathy for those who bought the skin when it first came out since they wouldn’t get the refund (and because they lost money on an ugly skin).

For now, the Overwatch community is still skeptical of Blizzard after everything that’s happened with Overwatch 2 over the past few years. But at least some people will get their money back.
