Overwatch 2 players are growing impatient.

Ever since the promise of a full PvE mode that never arrived, Overwatch 2 players have been down on Blizzard and its hero shooter. Now, another game mode is getting canned, and gamers have had enough.

Overwatch 2 is, first and foremost, a PvP game in which teams of five implement strategies and team comps to take control of the map in competitive matches. However, the game has also become quite popular over the years for its lore, skins, and special event content.

Blizzard promised that Overwatch 2 would get a PvE mode with missions for specific heroes and skill trees that led to uniquely upgraded abilities. Unfortunately, this never came to be, and developers instead offered up a few hero missions that cost money and left gamers feeling underwhelmed and frustrated.

In exchange, Blizzard revealed a few other game modes to bulk up the content. One of those modes was the Hero Mastery Gauntlet, a co-op version of Hero Mastery that had players working together to complete obstacle courses to unlock rewards. There was also a leaderboard for players to see how they stacked up against other teams.

But that’s also being removed.

Blizzard announces the end of Hero Mastery Gauntlet

Blizzard said it has been evaluating its game modes to see which had the most playtime. According to Blizzard, Hero Mastery Gauntlet was one of the least-played modes.

“We have decided to discontinue Hero Mastery Gauntlet as a permanent mode, and it will not be available to play starting in Season 11,” Blizzard said. “Players have until the end of Season 10 to complete the Lifetime Challenges for Hero Mastery Gauntlet and compete on the mode’s Top 500 leaderboards.”

Devs added: “Players have until the end of Season 10 to complete the Lifetime Challenges for Hero Mastery Gauntlet and compete on the mode’s Top 500 leaderboards.”

It’s safe to say that Blizzard is just not sitting right with Overwatch 2 players. Just another let down and more removed content.

Meanwhile, job listings show that Blizzard is planning on more PvE content in the future. The listings include the phrase “multi-season story arcs.”
