Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller recently shared some future plans or ranked gameplay, including a possible pick and ban system.
In an interview with Dexerto, Keller discussed the possibilities coming to ranked gameplay. To keep competitive fresh, Keller explained that the team has a vision to add “newer updated systems, shaking up PvP, rank resets, and new rewards.”
On top of this, however, was talk of a potential pick and ban system.
The Overwatch 2 team is looking to keep ranked fresh and fun for competitive players. This includes annual updates that would bring big system changes and features. This includes a pick and ban system.
Maybe.
Said Keller: “I don’t think we’ve committed to something like, let’s say a pick or ban system, but that would be an example of the type of system that we’d be looking at when we talk about adding new things to the game.”
A pick and ban system happens during the hero selection stage of a ranked match. In other games, a pick and ban system allows the opposing team to select heroes that are off limits, creating a bit more dynamic gameplay and challenges.
On top of the possibility of a pick and ban system, Overwatch 2 developers are also discussing ranked resets. This used to happen annually but the team is thinking of doing it more frequently. Keller revealed that a mid-year update has been thrown around.
