Olof “olofmeister” Kajbjer is set to return to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive following Nikola “NiKo” Kovači’s imminent departure from Faze. The rifler will lurk the maps for FaZe in Blast Premier Fall Series, according to a report by Cybersport.pl

olofmeister announced his break from CSGO in May and attributed his temporary departure to a lack of motivation. The CSGO maestro took indefinite time to recuperate and recharge to come back stronger. Fans will see him back in the server for the first time since ESL One: Road to Rio.

The news hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, but Olofmeister seems to be FaZe’s last refuge as reports of NiKo’s transfer to G2 have started circulating. Various sources have reported that NiKo’s move to G2 has already been finalized and that an official announcement will soon follow. The team in-game leader is expected to don G2’s jersey in BLAST Premier Fall Series, leaving FaZe without a leader and an entry fragger.

It’s not sure who will be taking up the role of IGL, as this position has always been controversial in FaZe. There have been many questions over NiKo’s performance as IGL. At the same time, NiKo expressed at various times that he doesn’t enjoy being an in-game leader.

FaZe could use the help from olofmeister at BLAST

FaZe’s performance has been subpar ever since Olofmeister stepped down from his role. Various switches followed his exit, further weakening the team’s position in major tournaments. Young gun Aurimas “Bymas” Pipiras replaced the stalwart rilfer only to himself be replaced by Markus “Kjaerbye Kjærbye due to team’s poor performance in cs_summit 6, yet another change in the roster.

Most recently, FaZe won IEM New York without Olofmeister, but NiKo managed to be the star of the game and ended the match with a rating of 1.24. With NiKo’s departure, FaZe is in dire need of a hero to pull them up from their occasional depths, and Olofmeister seems like the ideal option as of now.

It’s yet hard to say whether Olofmeister is just standing-in for NiKo or if he is coming back to stay. Whatever the case, the two-time major winning champion has already gotten back in the saddle as his FACEIT match history shows that he recently played his first FPL match in six months.
