Olleh announced as final member of Dignitas Academy team
Veteran support player Kim “Olleh” Joo-sung has joined Dignitas Academy, rounding out the impressive roster ahead of the 2020 NA Academy season.
“Assembled Exodia. Welcome our new support, Olleh, to DIG 2020!” the organization
tweeted
out just a few hours ago.
Olleh is a fan-favorite support player who was most well known for his time playing with Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng on Team Liquid from November 2017 to November 2018. Olleh gained a wholesome image during his time on the team, often speaking out about Doublelift being mean to him or the ADC star attempting to teach Olleh English profanities.
After that bromance ended, Olleh joined the Golden Guardians. While he later moved to their Academy team, he’s still a well known and successful player who attended the 2017 World Championships while playing for Immortals.
Now that Olleh has joined the Academy team, the roster is complete. And, unlike what is usually found on Academy teams, Dignitas’ squad is made up almost entirely of seasoned veterans. In December, the organization announced that former Clutch Gaming mid laner Tanner “Damonte” Damonte and veteran jungler jungler Matthew “Akaadian” Higginbotham were joining their Academy team. They joined Kim “Fenix” Jae-Hoon and Tom “Rodov” Rodov.
Fans critique Dignitas filling 2020 academy team with older talents
One Reddit user
posted
the complete roster on the League of Legends subreddit, joking that it looked like an LCS roster.
Another League of Legends fan said it would be an “absolute disaster” if they didn’t come out on top in Academy. Others said if they failed it would be a “big meme.”
Some fans are speculating that the Dignitas Academy roster has a purpose beyond dominating other Academy teams. There’s a chance the seasoned squad will be used as in-house training partners for the Dignitas’ main LCS roster.
While some Reddit users joked that they were glad to see so many “new faces” and “rookies,” some found the stacked team to be a bit of a problem. Instead of supporting rookies and college players like the Academy is normally for, Dignitas team is almost completely void of fresh talent looking for an opportunity to prove themselves to a LCS team. For some fans, it seemed like the competitive League scene just wasn’t interested in developing new talent.
