Ninja Fortnite skin revealed, release date announced on Mixer
Tyler “Ninja” Blevins has been immortalized in Fortnite in a surprising way.
Ninja revealed the skin on his Mixer channel, which was followed by Fortnite data miners unearthing the details on social media. Ninja stated the skin will be made available on Fortnite’s in-game shop on January 16. Fans can see the skin in action by
sifting through clips
from Ninja’s latest stream.
“I’ve always dreamt of having a skin in Fortnite since I started playing the game. Today, my dream becomes reality,” Ninja
tweeted.
While the face on the skin doesn’t quite look perfect, it’s an obvious homage to the pro. The skin has his signature dyed, gelled hairdo and he wears a vibrant blue outfit, a holdover from his time with Luminosity Gaming. Ninja’s official logo also appears on the shoulder of the skin, removing any doubt over who the skin is meant to represent.
Notably, there are four versions of the skin. Though the primary one is clearly meant to represent Tyler Blevins, the person, players can also opt to wear a half-mask that covers his mouth. Interestingly, there is also the ability to play as a character that more closely resembles his logo with a blackened face and glowing eyes.
Packaged with the skin is a back bling and new harvesting tool. The item turns the default pickaxe into a pair of katanas, which can be swung to gain materials from trees, rocks, and cars. The back bling also uses the twin katana.
It’s currently unclear how much the skins will cost.
Ninja’s Fortnite skin kicks off “Icon Series”
Notably, the new Ninja skin is labeled in-game as part of the “Icon Series.” Epic Games released a statement that discusses what this means, and what to expect in the future.
“Gaming, music, film, and fashion collide in Fortnite in the Icon Series. The Icon Series brings the artistic vision, personality, and attitude of top creators to Fortnite, building on previous collaborations with Marshmello and Major Lazer,” Epic said on the
official Fortnite website.
Ninja’s close relationship with the Fortnite development team, positive outlook on Fortnite, and mainstream visibility makes him the obvious first choice for this line. His identifiable look also fits well into Fortnite’s aesthetic. Epic didn’t leave much room for speculation in terms of who will receive this treatment next, though.
Epic closed its statement by saying The Grefg and Loserfruit will be the next individuals to receive personalized skins in the game.
