The next Teamfight Tactics expansion, TFT Set 8, has been announced as “Monsters Attack!” It brings with it traits and mechanics to match the bright ToHo theming of the next auto battler set.

Releasing on Patch 12.23, the Monsters Attack expansion will be the next overhaul to Riot Games’ autobattler employing the League of Legends cast of characters to fill its rank. In a video dissecting the new set, lead designer Stephen “Mortdog” Mortimer walked fans through the new set.

TFT Set 8 says augments are here to stay

Originally introduced in Gadgets & Gizmos, the Augment mechanic has been a welcome addition to Teamfight Tactics, letting the player choose an upgrade that changes their game three times throughout a game. They outlived G&G, and after their success yet again in Dragonlands, Riot Games has decided that the augment-style system is a net improvement for TFT and is here to stay.

Teamfight Tactics: Monsters Attack!

The next set is appropriately titled “Monsters Attack,” taking place in a fictional city named “Spatulopolis” under siege by enormous kaiju-like monsters. Mortdog’s breakdown of the set included a few interesting details for ravenous fans who can’t wait for the set to hit the Public Beta Environment.

The set will include Hero Augments, Augments that soup up a single unit’s abilities, which will be offered only once per game and offered to every player at once. Opposite these heroes is the new trait, Threat, that represents the monsters attacking the city. Threat won’t do anything, and Threats won’t have any other traits, but they will be supercharged, super powerful units meant to do lots on their own.

Some of the other traits announced in the set reveal were Star Guardian, Underground, Anima Squad, and Ox Force. Each of these represents a team of heroes in Spatulopolis. Teamfight Tactics: Monsters Attack will release on the Public Beta Environment when Patch 12.21 goes onto League of Legends’ live servers, Wednesday, November 2, and live servers on December 7.
