MVP.PK release two founding members, add three replacements

MVP.PK has received a serious makeover.

South Korea’s foremost Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team was noticeably absent from the 2019 Katowice Major and the organization is looking to get back on track. As such, the team revealed some big changes to its lineup.

The foremost change to the team comes with the scattering of its longtime core. Since its formation in 2016, the MVP.PK lineup has been anchored by the trio of Keun-chul “solo” Kang, Min-soo “glow” Kim, and Min-seok “zeff” Park. However, MVP announced on Twitter that Solo and Glow have “agreed to end their contract with the team,” leaving Zeff as the last remaining founding member.

The move comes following a disappointing performance in the Asia Minor Championship that kept the team out of the 2019 Katowice Major. Despite posting a solid 2-0 performance in the group stage of the event, MVP.PK was the first to wash out of the playoffs. It opened with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Grayhound Gaming in the upper bracket and was finished off in the lower bracket by Vici Gaming. This kept them out of the event entirely, falling short of qualifying or a spot in the third-place play-in event.

Joining MVP.PK are new additions Hae-seong “HSK” Kim, Hong-kyo “Jinx” Jeong, and Gu-taek “stax” Kim. The trio played together with GOSU through most of 2018, enjoying moderate success in regional events. Their departure marked that team’s official disbandment.

The team may see at least one more roster move in the coming weeks. With the addition of HSK, Jinx, and Stax, MVP.PK now has six players and a coach on its roster. 

A definite answer is likely to come next week, with the team set to compete in the Asia qualifiers for ESL Pro League Season 9.
