mousesports releases Rejin after admission to CSGO cheating

mousesports announced that it has released head coach Allan “Rejin” Petersen after his involvement in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive’s coaching exploit scandal.

Rejin was one of 37 coaches who received punishments handed down by the Esports Integrity Coalition after it investigated reports that CSGO coaches had exploited a flaw in CSGO’s spectator code. The exploit gave coaches free reign over a CSGO server by allowing them to spectate any spot on a CSGO map, including enemy positions, loadouts, and utility.

The ESIC’s punishments weren’t dramatic, but those handed down from ESIC members such as ESL were. ESL delivered games bans ranging from months to years to the coaches involved.

After the investigation of @ESIC_Official concluded, we decided to permanently part ways with our coach @RejinCS. We thank Allan for his services, and while we’re extremely sad to see him leave the team, our firm stand for competitive integrity left us with no other option. https://t.co/CtVsYHIEh3

Rejin’s Tricked exploits cost him and mousesports

While Rejin was not found to have used the exploit during his time at mousesports, the investigation found that he had exploited the bug on numerous occasions during his time with Tricked Esports. His extensive use of the exploit earned the coach a 19-month ban even after having that time reduced by his confessing to the ESIC during its grace period.

In mousesports’ announcement, the team said that even though the investigation didn’t show that Rejin had used the exploit in any mousesports matches, the organization’s commitment to competitive integrity ultimately led to the decision to remove Rejin from the team’s coaching role.

Despite the team’s rapid improvement since CSGO’s summer player break, mouz officially announced Rejin’s release on October 6 as it prepares for its opening matchups at DreamHack Open Fall 2020 CSGO tournament. As for who mousesports has its eye on to fill in for one of CSGO’s veteran coaches, there aren’t many clear options. With so many coaches removed from the pool, mousesports will have to rely on in-game leader Finn “karrigan” Andersen and star player Robin “ropz” Kool to pick up the tactical slack in the meantime.

Luckily for mousepsorts, its recent performance over the course of ESL Pro League Season 12 is a great indicator as to the team’s future trajectory. With close series against CSGO’s top teams, mouz is currently on a path to regain a top-10 ranking for the first time since June.
