A new Pokemon from the Paldea region has been unveiled. Greavard is the most recent addition to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

The release date for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is getting closer and more details about the game are getting revealed. Despite not having voice acting in the game, Pokemon put out another video with a talking character. A student from Naranja Academy and a member of the Ghost type Pokemon Club is out in the woods looking for Ghost Pokemon. In her walk, the student encounters a Mimikyu and a Gengar, confirming that these two Pokemon will be available in the region. Then, the student finds a new Pokemon.

On this occasion, viewers get introduced to Greavard, an adorable Ghost Dog Pokemon that likes hiding underground. Greavard is the 20th Pokemon from Paldea announced after the starters, some legendaries, Paldean Wooper, and more. Ceruledge and Greavard are so far the only two Ghost type Pokemon on the list.

Greavard is a shaggy grey dog with a candle-like piece in his head. Greavard digs the ground and hides itself, leaving only this candle-like part visible. This dog Pokemon is friendly and gets closer to anyone who would give it attention. The adorable Greavard is a playful friend but one that hides a dark ability, it drains the life force of anyone who gets close to it.

What kind of dog is Greavard based on?

Greavard looks like the mix between Litwick, a bearded collie, and a Komondor.

The developers of Scarlet and Violet have not revealed the exact inspiration for new Pokemon dog Greavard but it is not uncommon for them to add dog-like Pokemon to the games. The most recent example is Yamper from Pokemon Sword and Shield, the electric type Pokemon that stole everyone’s hearts. It is unclear if Greavard will have an evolution, though Yamper evolves into the more dynamic Boltund.
