Liquid's Impact, FlyQuest's IgNar set to join Evil Geniuses
Evil Geniuses is in the process of acquiring former Team Liquid top laner Jung “Impact” Eon-yeong, FlyQuest support Lee “IgNar” Dong-geun and Team SoloMid Academy bot laner Lawrence “Lost” Hui.
Evil Geniuses is getting ready for the next stage of its evil plan with the acquisition of three new players. Impact is joining after three successful years with Team Liquid which saw him win four consecutive LCS titles and reach the Mid-Season Invitational finals in 2019. FlyQuest’s IgNar just returned from China where he competed in the World Championship and now has a new home. Finally, Lost is getting another shot in the LCS as Oceanic players no longer count against import slots.
All three of these players had solid performances in 2020 and position Evil Geniuses to have a stronger season. Impact is replacing Heo “Huni” Seung-hoon
who will be playing for Team SoloMid. Impact has the same carry potential as Huni, but tends to play a safer game. While Huni is a risk taker, Impact is not the type of laner that will leave things to chance and plays a more reserved style that is still fundamentally strong.
IgNar is the type of playmaker that Evil Geniuses needed. IgNar is constantly roaming and can work with the jungler to create pressure around the map. IgNar will be laning with Lost, who may not have the pedigree that Bae “Bang” Jung-sik does, but is still a player that cannot be underestimated.
Jungler Dennis “Svenskeren” Johnsen is staying with the team alongside mid laner Daniele “Jiizuke” di Mauro after the duo posted a strong 2020 season with Evil Geniuses. The next destination for Bang is unclear, but he might be going back to the LCK next year.
Who will be the top laner for Team Liquid in the 2021 LCS season?
With the departure of Impact, everything is falling into place for Team Liquid. As soon as free agency opened, Liquid closed big deals and got ready to roll. The organization is reportedly adding former Origen top laner Barney “Alphari” Morris and FlyQuest jungler Lucas “Santorin” Larsen.
Despite the poor results in the LEC, Alphari is still considered a strong top laner. Santorin is a solid jungler, but it isn’t clear how he will strategically fit into Liquid. The question for Team Liquid is who is in charge of the playmaking. Santorin and Alphari play a more passive style in comparison to their predecessors. It seems like all responsibility will fall on the shoulders of support Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in.
