The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer is full of awesome 80s music, snappy dialogue, and some wild looking locations. But fans noticed something in the trailer that had them questioning the future of the Marvel series. Is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 really the last one?
In the trailer released two months ago, Starlord says: “Are you ready for one last ride?”
To include this line in the trailer made it seem quite significant. Why include this dramatic line if it wasn’t the last of the Guardians of the Galaxy films? Of course, fans had questions. Luckily, there are answers.
Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 | New Trailer
The short answer is no.
Filmmaker James Gun has already confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy is a trilogy. He once told Entertainment Weekly that he wasn’t going to even make Vol. 3 but decided he needed to come back and “tell this story,” adding that he felt especially adamant about diving deeper into Rocket Raccoon’s lore.
Chris Pratt has also confirmed that Vol. 3 is the last installment. While watching the preview for the film, Pratt said: “You’re immediately swept up, not only in the idea that this is the end of the trilogy for all of us, but also you’re reminded of the journey that the characters are on.”
This seems like a pretty hard no for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4, but this is Marvel and Disney, so you never truly know.
The synopsis of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the Guardians coming together to defend the universe one last time. If the mission doesn’t go as planned, it could be the end of Guardians as we know them. Gunn has mentioned that this is the final time the Guardians will all be together, and there may be a new team if there’s another film.
The plot is largely under wraps, but it’s been confirmed that it will be quite emotional. Cast members have even cried while reading the script and fans are speculating that a main character might be killed off. There will also be a lot of exploration of Rocket’s origins, showing him as a baby. Gunn has stated that Rocket’s story will also tie into where the current timeline is heading.
