Is a Dunsparce evolution coming in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet?

Pokemon has long been adding new forms of established Pokemon, and Dunsparce may be lined up to have a new evolution or regional form in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Dunsparce is one the most typically ignored Pokemon in the entire franchise. The gen-two Pokemon doesn’t really do anything particularly well. Its stats are far below-average and its move pool has never been strong. Even when it was introduced, it paled in comparison to other pure normal Pokemon such as Kangaskhan, Snorlax, and Persian. Things haven’t gotten much better since after six generations of power creep. But rumors suggest that a new day is dawning for Dunsparce.

Here’s what we know about Dunsparce and whether it will receive a new regional form or evolution in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Is Dunsparce getting a new evolution or regional form in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet?

Leaks are suggesting that a new iteration of Dunsparce is coming in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, but it is unclear if this will be a new evolution, a regional form, or something else entirely.

The idea of something new related to Dunsparce comes from leaker Riddler_Khu on Twitter. Riddler_Khu is a leaker who has preempted official reveals for Pokemon content in the past, but does so using riddles, blurred screenshots, and other methods for obscuring the actual reveal. Despite this unique approach, a number of these vague allusions to unreleased content have foretold new reveals.

A fan quote-tweeted an official announcement regarding an upcoming trailer for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, pleading for a new evolution for Dunsparce. Riddler_Khu directly responded in a way that suggests that something is coming related to the Pokemon. Neither The Pokemon Company nor Game Freak have officially acknowledged that anything new is coming related to Dunsparce.

Though it wasn’t a direct statement that a new evolution for the Pokemon, there was little room for interpreting it any other way. The only remaining question is whether Dunsparce is actually getting a new evolution, or whether a regional form might be possible. There are also rumors regarding futuristic and archaic versions of established Pokemon similar to regional forms, but with unique names and Pokedex entries.

It’s unknown what’s coming but fans can look forward to finding out before long. With Pokemon Scarlet and Violet on the way in November, trailers and reveals are coming more frequently.
