When it comes to esports betting, it’s all about what you know.

From a team’s past performances to their recent roster moves, knowing the latest information before you place your bet on a match is key to winning big. But where do you even start? Luckily, websites like WIN.gg have all the information you need to tackle a match properly.

Recent match history and results

Some important information you’ll find on WIN.gg are both teams’ recent tournament results. Search for both teams one at a time in the search bar on the site’s top right corner. Here, you’ll be led to a page with a detailed history of the team, as well as the current roster. But you’ll also get some much-needed insight into the team’s performance.

Under “Team Stats” you have the option to select tournaments a team has competed in each year. Check out Team Liquid’s League of Legend squad’s performance at the 2019 World Championship above for reference. You can see their win rate, along with their first blood, first turret, and first baron percent rate. The team’s overall kill-death ratio (KDA) and damage per minute are also available.

On the right of this chart is the team’s “achievements.” Here, you can check out the outcome of tournaments they participated in throughout the year. For example, Team Liquid placed first at the LCS Summer Split and the LCS Spring Split, but was eliminated in group stages of Worlds a bit later that year. This can tell you that Team Liquid is one of the strongest teams in North America, but if they’re facing a foreign competitor from Europe or Korea, Team Liquid might not be the right pick.

But you can go even further than that on WIN.gg. Type a recent event like “2019 LCS Summer Split” into the top right search bar. Here, you can check out how a team did against every other team as the tournament progressed. If you take a quick glance at the group stage of the LCS Summer Split, you’ll see that Team Liquid won almost every one of their matches, except for one against Cloud9.

Thinking of placing a bet on Team Liquid in the upcoming match? Find out who their opponent is and find a recent match outcome on the tournament page, then click on it. This will bring you to a page that lets you compare the two team’s past matches against each other, as well as their individual results. Check out “head to head” to see which team finds themselves coming out on top of this match up more often. This will give you a much better understanding of a team’s performance against other specific teams, which can help you decide where to place your bet.

Roster trades, player signings, new coaches

But there’s even more than match statistics to check out on WIN.gg before placing a bet. A lot of the articles will also help give you a better understanding of the team you are considering. Once you search for a team in the top right search bar, you can see “related news” on the right-hand side. This is an up-to-date feed of all news regarding the team you’re studying up on.

There are many factors that can affect a team’s performance going into a match aside from the matchup itself. Has the team made any recent trades? Have they signed a new coach?

Think of Clutch Gaming during the 2019 LCS Summer Split. They started off the season looking mediocre at best, but during an interview with WIN.gg halfway through the split, Tanner “Damonte” Damonte revealed that they had a new coach who was inspiring them to train harder and take themselves more seriously. If you had read this before betting on an upcoming Summer Split match, you’d know that Clutch Gaming have upped their game. Still considered underdogs by the general public, a bet on the newly improved CG would have led to some lucrative bets at the time.

Roster changes are also major factors when it comes to betting. It’s not only about knowing the new player’s strengths and past performances, but also taking into consideration how the players communicate with each other. A new player often means some shaky matches soon after the roster change, but later on it can prove to elevate the team’s play immensely once they’re more in sync with one another. WIN.gg will have articles on every big roster shake-up before and during the season, making it a bit easier to keep track of this information.

Sometimes there is even more shocking news to stay abreast of, like player mistreatment allegations, a team being accused of not paying their players, or a key player getting suspended for unsavory actions. Maybe some players fell ill right before a match. These are all things that could affect a team’s morale, and therefore their performance.

Match and tournament predictions

Still unsure how you want to bet in an upcoming match? Let esports experts and enthusiasts take away some of the pressure by checking out WIN.gg’s match predictions and tournament pick’ems. These articles and videos will give you highly educated guesses on the upcoming matches based on all of the information above.

Going into Worlds 2019’s knockout stage, WIN.gg put together a detailed pick’em video that not only outlined who would most likely win each match, but offered a detailed discussion on why each outcome was chosen.

WIN.gg also did this for other stages of Worlds, as well as for Dota 2’s The International 2019. This is a way to see what esports analysts and experts are predicting for each of the various parts of a big tournament, giving you a better understanding of the matchups.

While anything can change during a match, it’s important to have a deep understanding of the game, the players, and their past performances if you want to place a successful bet. Once you feel confident in your knowledge, you can even bet on live matches, which takes everything you’ve learned on WIN.gg and then some.
