Riot Games has gone all out to combat toxicity in Valorant. The new “muter words” feature is a game-changer that will help to keep trolls at bay.
No video game is safe from foul-mouthed players who ravage serious ranked games. Unfortunately, online bullying is quite common in first-person shooter titles like Valorant. However, Riot Games has taken commendable measures to limit the trolls.
Considering the rampant bullies in Valorant, Riot Games has introduced a new feature that sensors specific words. Players can add as many words to “muted” as they want, and the system would automatically sensor their variations.
The current system that detects offensive words in various languages is pretty easy to exploit. Players often type new variations of banned words by adding numbers, capital letters, or exclamation marks. The new muted word feature will let players add custom words in their own language that might be unpleasant to them. Valorant will ban them instantly from the game, ensuring a healthier in-game experience.
“We admit that some players are often smarter than our automated bad word detection system and continually find creative ways to type things we don’t want to in chat. This is why we need your help to make our detections better,” comms strategist Jeff Landa said.
Riot Games will also leverage these lists by comparing them across regions and using the collected data to improve the automated detections of bad words.
Riot now lets you add specific words to muted category. Here’s how to do it:
The selected words will no longer appear in the chat. Another way to tackle the bullies is by muting them completely. Press the escape key and click on the match button. Uncheck voice or text chat next to the player’s name to mute them.
