Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have one of the best early purchase mystery gifts in the franchise’s history, but how do you actually get the mystery gift function?

It’s very easy to miss how to get access to the mystery gift menu option in Pokemon BDSP, but the good news is that players can rectify this at any time. They ought to do it fairly soon however, as mythical Pokemon Manaphy is only available for a short time.

How to get mystery gift in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

The mystery gift function in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl can be obtained in Jubilife City’s TV station after earning the first gym badge.

After defeating Roark to earn the Coal Badge, return to Jubilife City and visit the TV station. During the first visit to Jubilife City, this building was blocked off by a clown NPC but after returning with the badge, they will no longer be there.

Head up the stairs to the third floor and there will be a man and a woman standing next to one another. Speak with the man to take part in a poll of TV viewing habits and select “EVERYONE HAPPY WI-FI CONNECTION.” After speaking with him, the “Mystery Gift” option will be added to the menu.

How to get Manaphy and Phione in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Manaphy can be acquired in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl through the mystery gift feature from November 19, 2021 to February 21, 2022.

After obtaining the mystery gift feature in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, select “Get via Internet.” This will bring up all publicly available mystery gifts, which currently includes a Manaphy egg. 

The egg can be hatched in the usual way, by keeping it in the party and walking around. After hitting a certain number of steps, the egg will hatch to become a level one Manaphy.

Phione can then be obtained by breeding a Manaphy with a Ditto. Despite being a mythical Pokemon, Manaphy is breedable but will only produce Phione. Phione does not evolve, making Manaphy a unique Pokemon in that it produces a new species of Pokemon when breeding with a Ditto.

How to use Platinum outfit mystery gift in Pokemon BDSP

The Platinum outfit can be obtained in Pokemon BDSP through the mystery gift and can be equipped in Veilstone City.

Obtain the Platinum outfit in Pokemon BDSP by collecting the mystery gift via internet from November 19, 2021 to February 21, 2022 then go to Veilstone City. Head to the boutique that allows the player to change their outfit and select the Platinum outfit.

The Platinum outfit is similar to the one worn by the main characters in Pokemon Platinum on the Nintendo DS. Though the characters appear the same, the Platinum versions wear an outfit more appropriate for cold weather, with the male trainer wearing a coat and the female trainer wearing a long scarf.
