A new installment in the Warcraft series is coming soon with Warcraft Arclight Rumble. Here’s what it’s all about and what you need to know about the new game.

Blizzard has been heavily overhauled over the last few years to increase its development efforts. The results of those maneuvers are now being felt, with the studio working on several major releases simultaneously. Alongside the ongoing Overwatch 2 PvP Beta, Blizzard has officially revealed Warcraft Arclight Rumble.

The new mobile game was revealed with both cinematic and gameplay trailers, giving Warcraft fans a look at the game and some context for its development. So what is this new game, and what do we know about it?

What is Warcraft Arclight Rumble?

Warcraft Arclight Rumble is a new tower defense mobile game from Blizzard.

It borrows themes and characters from the Warcraft setting, but it’s not the MMORPG or real-time strategy game that fans are accustomed to. Instead, the upcoming mobile game is a tower defense hero collector in the vein of Clash of Clans. Elements of past Warcraft titles are present, but this is set to be a new experience tailored specifically to the mobile platform.

The game features elements that are standard across modern tower defense games. Each side of the conflict is tasked with destroying the enemy’s base using AI-controlled units that march towards the other side of the map. Between the two bases are other objectives that allow players to control territory, improve their armies, and more.

What units are there in Warcraft Arclight Rumble?

Warcraft Arclight Rumble features units from World of Warcraft and Warcraft 3, as well as some new and original characters.

Many of the units will be familiar for those who played Warcraft 3, with Meat Wagons, Huntresses, Abominations, and others making appearances. These units will be split between five factions, called families. All of them should be familiar to Warcraft fans, with the list including:

  • Alliance
  • Horde
  • Undead
  • Blackrock
  • Beasts

These families have different strengths and weaknesses. The Alliance is defensively strong, undead has huge numbers of units, the Horde is offensively tuned, and so on.

Strengths of families can be accentuated and weaknesses can be covered using special units called leaders. These leaders are based on established Warcraft hero characters and offer perks such as reduced unit costs or extra gold acquisition.

Players will need to balance offense, defense, and economy in order to defeat their foes.

Warcraft Arclight Rumble release date

No release date has yet been announced for Warcraft Arclight Rumble, though Blizzard is offering new players the immediate opportunity to pre-register for the game. This will allow players to be notified of the game going live as soon as it’s made available for play.

Given that this is the first time Blizzard has officially shown Warcraft Arclight Rumble, it may be some time yet before the new mobile game is released. It’s also possible that Warcraft Arclight Rumble could be released later this year, if Blizzard is further along in its development process.
