Red, Green, and Blue Shards are all important in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, but it helps to know what to do with them.
Shard items have taken on various roles in the Pokemon series. In the original Ruby and Sapphire games, they were traded for evolution stones. In Black 2 and White 2, they were required for move tutors. In Sun and Moon, they were traded for Bottle Caps.
In Pokemon Legends: Arceus, they’re used as a crafting material. This isn’t something that has ever existed in the Pokemon series before, and for some, the actual results of crafting with the shards might be a bit disappointing.
Here’s how to use Red, Green, and Blue Shards in Pokemon Legends: Arceus.
In Pokemon Legends: Arceus, shards are used to craft Star Pieces. Star Pieces exist solely to be sold back to shops. They can be sold for 5,000 Pokemon Dollars apiece.
They can be crafted using three Red Shards, three Green Shards, three Blue Shards, and one Stardust. On their own, each color of shard in Pokemon Legends: Arceus sells for 150 Pokemon Dollars apiece, while Stardust sells for 1,000 Pokemon Dollars, a difference of 3,550.
The Star Piece crafting recipe can be purchased from the Craftworks shop in Jubilife Village. This is the shop near to Beni’s shop where players are frequently forced into eating potato mochi. It costs 10,000 Pokemon Dollars to purchase, but this ultimately pays for itself after crafting just three Star Pieces.
While this might sound disappointing given how significant shards have been in previous Pokemon games, they’re not less significant here. Currency is fairly difficult to come by in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, and crafting with shards is one of the few ways to bring in a significant windfall of cash.Â
Cash is used for everything from move tutoring to purchasing crafting recipes, and there aren’t really any effective ways of farming it as in past games. Though shards were definitely a bigger deal in previous Pokemon titles, this means that they’re still important in Pokemon Legends: Arceus.
Shards can easily be found in space-time distortions in Pokemon Legends: Arceus.
Space-time distortions form at random as the player traverses the world. Once they form, a chunk of the map spawns in Pokemon from other areas of the world that don’t normally appear in that area. The ground is also dotted with a mix of shards and random evolution items.
Space-time distortions are much less novel after exiting the first area. Players might opt to ignore them simply because they’re very likely to encounter Pokemon they’ve already caught. But the shards make it worthwhile to explore space-time distortions, as a quick trip picking up shards can yield tens of thousands of Pokemon Dollars.
