Hogwarts Legacy is a chance for fans of Harry Potter to jump into the Wizarding World themselves.
A State of Play event from PlayStation revealed some new details and footage of Hogwarts Legacy’s gameplay. Fans got to take a 15-minute tour that revealed much about what fans’ journeys through Hogwarts will involve. From being sorted into a house, to making fast friends, and even the famous Room of Requirement, there’s lots to absorb.
The first thing highlighted in the gameplay reveal is the ability to customize the player character’s appearance through a customizer menu that many fans will be familiar with. After comes the process of being sorted into one of Hogwart’s four houses, and the all-important task of getting to know your peers. Your character is joining the school late, and as a fifth-year student you’ll have lots to catch up on.

The start of the journey will involve attending classes and learning magic from Hogwarts’ varied and unique staff. Charms, Herbology, Potions, and Defense Against the Dark Arts are four of the classes on the curriculum. Classes make an obvious translation for tutorials and introductions to new mechanics, though you’ll be able to explore the castle and its grounds between sessions.
Hogwarts Legacy is said to be taking place in the late 1800s, according to the gameplay reveal. Fans won’t recognize many of the faculty, but timeless characters like Nearly Headless Nick will make appearances. The Room of Requirement will play the part of the player’s customizable home hub as they adventure.
The game seems to focus on dark wizards allying with a goblin named Ranrock, who will serve as the villain. The next thing to be highlighted in Hogwarts Legacy gameplay is magic dueling and the combat system. Hogwarts Legacy has found a way to work in combo-focused gameplay, using the Shield Charm to deflect enemy spells.
Hogwarts Legacy is also an RPG, and fans will have the chance to pick talents and create gear that enhances their combat abilities. From visiting Hogsmeade to engaging with the magical beasts of the world, there’s plenty to do outside of Hogwart’s ramparts.
