Harry Potter-themed games don’t have a great reputation, but a new one has fans hopeful for an epic game immersed in the world of Harry Potter. So what is Hogwarts Legacy?
Hogwarts Legacy is a single-player, story-focused, action RPG set in the wizarding world of the wildly successful Harry Potter series. Adaptations of the massive book and movie property have been mixed to mediocre (or worse) in the past. Could Hogwarts Legacy change that?
Hogwarts Legacy is an upcoming video game from Portkey Games that takes place at the wizard school of Hogwarts in a fictional version of the United Kingdom.
The multi-billion-dollar Harry Potter property has cemented itself as one of the largest intellectual properties in entertainment. Hogwarts Legacy lets the player follow in the steps of their favorite Hogwarts students and adventure through the mystical school and its fantastical grounds.
A 2020 world premiere trailer showed all of the tropes that hardcore Harry Potter fans and casual enjoyers might expect from an adventure in Hogwarts. From being sorted into one of its four iconic houses to fighting dragons, riding magical fauna, and casting a wide variety of magical spells, it seems like a true immersion into the fan-favorite universe.
Hogwarts Legacy has gone silent for a while but looks to be working towards a release later this year.
The release date seems to be set as September 6, 2022.
The Rowling Library confirmed a special art book chronicling the creation of the game for the same day. Many games’ special editions include art books or assets in order to give hardcore fans more merchandise to remember the game by. It makes sense that the game would release at the same time, or in the same immediate time window, as its art book.
The game looks to emulate the book series’ success by allowing the player their very own Hogwarts adventure, completing with friends and foes made along the way. Fans can expect the game late this summer or early into the fall.
