Here is why 1883 season 2 is not happening
To the fans’ disappointment, Yellowstone’s prequel 1883 won’t have a season 2 and here is the reason why.
1883 premiered in December 2021 on the streaming platform Paramount+. The show, created by Taylor Sheridan, follows the story of the Dutton family as they leave Tennessee after the Civil War.
The family joins a wagon train that is venturing from Fort Worth, Texas, to Oregon. The Dutton family ends up settling in Montana and establishing what becomes the Yellowstone Ranch.
The show stars Tim McGraw as James Dillard Dutton, Faith Hill as Margaret Dutton, and Isabel May as Elsa Dutton. McGraw appeared in Yellowstone during a flashback sequence as a way to connect both shows.
Paramount changed its approach to the series over time. In February 2022, Paramount revealed the plans to release more episodes of 1883 that could be considered a second season. The studio changed the direction later in the year, deciding to keep 1883 as a limited series.
Instead of 1883 season 2, Paramount released 1923, a sequel. This series premiered in December 2022, and it follows a new generation of Dutton members. This time, the family is overcoming the early Great Depression. Unlike 1883, 1923 will have a second season.
Is 1883 on Netflix or Amazon Prime?
1883 is not available on Netflix or Amazon Prime. The show was developed by Paramount, and it is only available on the platform Paramount+.
Should you watch 1883 before Yellowstone?
1883 is the first of Yellowstone’s prequels. The show follows the Dutton family in 1883 as they settle in Montana. While in chronological order, 1883 is the first installment in the series, it’s not necessary to watch it to understand Yellowstone.
You could watch all five seasons of Yellowstone and then watch 1883. Once you are done with those shows, then watch 1923.
