Sigma may be the newest hero to make their Overwatch League debut, but all eyes were on Ou “Eileen” Yiliang’s Doomfist Friday night.

The Guangzhou Charge beat fellow Chinese newcomers Chengdu Hunters in the first match of the Season 2 postseason play-ins, and almost every team fight they won was thanks to Eileen popping off on Doomfist. It came as no surprise when he was named the Player of the Match.

WIN.gg sat down with the talented DPS player to find out the strategy behind his unstoppable Doomfist, and how he’s feeling about their match tomorrow against Seoul Dynasty.

How do you feel about the win today?

Eileen: It’s not enough. We have another match tomorrow against Seoul. But today I feel excited about being the MVP.

What does it mean to you to get that award?

I worked so hard. It’s like proof that it worked, a certificate for my hard work. I’ll be more confident moving forward.

What outcome were you expecting today?

Personally, I’m really confident in myself. I practiced a lot and prepared for this game. But when I was in the match, it didn’t feel like enough. There were a lot of things I didn’t expect. They’re good in the meta, and there were a lot of things we didn’t predict.

What were some things the Hunters did that surprised you?

I didn’t expect them to use Symmetra and Junkrat. Eventually, I got used to it. But I never saw them put together in the same comp.

Why were you guys able to beat the Hunters?

In the first two maps, we had some mistakes but we still won. On the third map, we didn’t work together really well. That gave them a chance to win. But the last two maps, we came together and the teamwork improved. That’s the reason why we were able to win.

How did you guys prepare for the new meta?

We prepared two different team comps for today’s match. We were really confident with both of them. But for Seoul Dynasty, we won’t use the same thing.

Why do you think Orisa and Sigma work so well together?

Orisa will take care of the frontline, but Sigma’s shield is more flexible. He can move it where it’s needed.

How do you personally feel about the double barrier meta?

It’s pretty strong. But for us, we figured out a lot of ways to counter this kind of situation.

Do you like it?

I do. We have a lot of flex players on our team. The new meta and the new heroes give us new team combos. It’s a great start for us to be able to try new things.

Why do you think Doomfist is a strong counter to Orisa/Sigma?

I practiced a lot with Doomfist, so I got really confident on him. Doomfist is not my best hero, but I prepared a lot of different heroes, and we may show those to the audience.

This is the hero that our team comp needed. Hunters were using double barrier. Doomfist can easily go through those shields.

Who were you playing the most in Stage 4 after 2-2-2 was implemented?

In Stage 4, I didn’t have a lot of chances to play on stage. But I played Doomfist the most then, too. I also played Widowmaker.

Do you have any advice for aspiring Doomfist players?

For Doomfist, if you play him really bad it’s not your fault. Your teammates didn’t give you the resources you need and weren’t supporting you properly.

What was the idea behind switching to Sombra in the first map?

The Hunters were focused on my Doomfist so I changed to Sombra to be more stealthy.

Do you see any other DPS coming into play more often in the playoffs because of the double barrier meta?

The heroes we’ll see the most are Sigma, Symmetra, and Pharah.

How do you feel about making it this far in your first year in the OWL?

We are a rookie team but we still made it to the play-ins. But we still have a way to go, including our match tomorrow against Seoul.

How do you feel about match against Seoul tomorrow?

Even though Seoul is pretty strong, I am confident about tomorrow’s match because we prepared a lot for them.
